War Weekend in the Gap!

If you’ve read the Middlesboro Daily News (click link for full story) then you’ve probably read about the events to take place this weekend (April 25-26, 2009) in the Cumberland Gap. If not here’s a quick sum up!

Today they are setting things up to rise and shine by 6:30 am tomorrow morning with a bugle call. After morning reports they’ll proceed to treat the public to a Living History event. Later demonstrations will be presented. At 11 am the battle ensues giving us a real live look back in time.

After all the excitement, settle down with a Ladies Tea ($5 at the door).

Those are the highlights, but more is expected. So take time out and go to the Gap! Lots to do this weekend! Enjoy!

Spring finally feels like it’s here.

It’s still cool, but finally we’re seeing bright blue skies, fluffy white clouds and trees, shrubs and other plants bursting with flowers and leaves. Green has arrived! So what do yo do in the springtime? What’s your favorite outdoor activity?

With the arrival of spring, they’ll be new postings here of places to go and things to see for the tri-state area. If you have ideas of places we should feature, please drop us a line or simply leave a comment!

I hope everyone made it through the crazy wind that came through today okay. We personally didn’t experience power failure,but know that many have. For anyone that wants the weather and news can be seen on www.wbir.com and they now have live steaming video. I noticed there are traffic shots in between broadcasts as well as live broadcasts on the site. So stay safe everyone!

Thank you to those who are still checking Gossip Gap daily. As the spring comes I will have more posting in the forum and update this blog more often. Thank you again.

Bad Gerty! My apologies as to not being around since November. I tend to take a hiatus this time of year. Some friends call it my ‘cave’, perhaps I’m bear-like and have to hibernate for a bit. LOL However I’m returning to the ‘real world’ lol so look for things to come. Stop by the forum and shout a hey.

After a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday, I know I am lol. All that turkey made me sleepy. With Christmas on the way there’s no time for snoozing! Stockings must be hung, trees to be cut, dragged in and decorated. Time to pop popcorn and string it on the tree.

So what are your holiday memories? What did you used to do as a child that you’d love to do again? What’s stopping you? If you can, I challenge everyone reading to do at least one thing they loved doing for Christmas as a child that you’ve stopped doing.

Happy Veterans Day!

There have been wars since the beginning of time. Satan vs. God, Cain vs. Able. On and on throughout history, each side fighting for something they believe in or against.

So this Veterans Day I invite you to not only thank a veteran for their services in defending our rights to believe in or against something, but to take a moment to stop and think of exactly what you believe in and why. Re-evaluate your beliefs and make sure they are YOUR beliefs, whatever they are, not something you’ve been accustomed to or don’t think about.

Something else I’d like for you to think about. Our veterans have endured a decline in our respect. So many take for granted all they’ve done for us. People no longer even tip their hat toward them so to speak. They were and still are heroes. Let’s remember to treat them as such long after today is over. Veteran’s Day shouldn’t be restricted to one day a year. Let’s show respect year around.

Dear Veterans:

For all my rights I enjoy, all my privileges I don’t deserve, THANK YOU for fighting for it all.

One night, probably a year or more ago, I while driving home I saw some people by the side of the road. My husband wasn’t with me, but I felt like I had to stop and check on the truck I’d passed. I turned around and went back to see if they needed help. The gentleman explained to me they were simply waiting on a delivery truck. He pointed out a church in the distance that wasn’t really visible in the dark. That’s when he told me about what they were doing. It’s called Angel Food Ministries. They take montly orders from anyone. You pay upfront for the package you order and it comes in on a specified date. This is fresh food and it’s cheaper than what you can buy at the grocery stores. But enough about me describing it. Take a look for yourself on their website.

Here’s the thing. I’ve not found many of these in the surrounding areas. You need a church willing to host the ordering and receiving of shipments to do this. So here’s my challenge to the tri-state area. Get your church to sign up! Everything is on the site (link above) so click it and it’s all explained there.

I’ll be posting the ones for the area I can find in the forum, so if you’d like to vie w them, please feel free to click the forum link to the upper right. I hope this helps someone, its for EVERYONE.
